Certificates of Origin
Certificates of Origin (CoO) are an essential component of international trade. They confirm that the goods in a particular shipment have been wholly obtained, produced, manufactured or processed in a particular country. Certain countries require exporters to have a Certificate of Origin.

What is a Certificate of Origin?
A Certificate of Origin (CoO) attests that the specified goods meet certain criteria to be considered as originating in a particular country. A Certificate of Origin provides authorities and your buyer with trusted assurance of your products’ origin.
The Wellington Chamber of Commerce issues both FTA Certificates of Origin and Standard Certificates of Origin, as well as Free Sale Certificates and Certificates of Manufacture.

Free Trade Agreements and Certificates of Origin
If the importing country has a Free Trade Agreement with New Zealand, a Certificate of Origin may waive duty charges on the goods. Please contact our team directly at certs@wecc.org.nz to explore your eligibility for a FTA COO and obtain the necessary template.
Self-Certification of Origin
New Zealand’s trade agreements with Korea, Taiwan and CPTTP allow exporters to make a “self-certification of origin”. It is important that exporters make accurate declarations, understand the relevant Product Specific Rules and liability of their declaration for themselves and the importer.

Applying for Wet-Stamped Certification
‘Wet-Stamped’ certification refers to the physical stamping of a document (rather than electronic stamping). This practice is not common and is only required for the countries listed below.
If you believe you may need a wet-stamp, please email us and we will guide you through the process.
