Business Community Welcomes New Expert Business Advisory Groups

Business Central and the Wellington Chamber of Commerce welcomes Wellington City Council’s move to establish the Expert Business Advisory Groups. This is a significant step toward the stronger, more structured partnership between Council and the business community that we have long called for.

Establishing a formal business advisory group was one of the core recommendations in our Green Light Economy report and a key election ask. Over recent months we have met with the new Mayor and engaged closely with Council to progress this work, so it is fantastic to see it now moving to the implementation stage.

Creating consistent, sector-led engagement is essential to strengthening Wellington’s economic direction. Our Green Light Economy report highlighted the need for clearer economic leadership, deeper collaboration, and more direct business input into the city’s growth priorities and these advisory groups are an important mechanism to achieve that.

Wellington’s businesses bring real-time insight into the opportunities and challenges shaping our Capital. Ensuring those perspectives directly inform future economic action plans will help build a more resilient, vibrant and confident city.

With expressions of interest now open, we strongly encourage businesses across the city to put their hands up and help shape the work of these groups. We look forward to seeing strong engagement and to contributing constructively to the conversations ahead.
