The Government is forming a national destination management team with $5 million from the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy. This team will collaborate with regions across New Zealand to implement their own destination plans, considering each region's unique attractions while ensuring national coordination, with the aim to provide a great visitor experience, boost local economies, and create jobs while protecting the environment. Regions are already developing plans with $11.5 million from the COVID-19 relief package. The additional funding will support the team in working nationally with tourism organisations, businesses, government, and communities to enhance the visitor experience.
