Manager, Advocacy & Corporate Affairs

As both a member and recruitment partner of Business Central and the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, we're proud to present this key senior role, Manager Advocacy & Corporate Affairs.

This is a significant role that engages widely with the membership and broader business and government and is the key advisor and support to the Chief Executive in delivering advice, advocacy and guidance for the membership.

About the role

In this senior role you'll join a collaborative and supportive leadership team, and you report to and work closely with the Chief Executive. You'll drive advocacy, policy engagement, issues management, and strategy development. You'll support the Chief Executive in advocating on behalf of the membership, and your strategic approach to the job will be based on good research and engagement.

In addition, you'll have responsibility for the communications function, managing a highly capable Marketing and Design team. This will ensure delivery of high quality collateral that truly reflects Business Central's work, members, and brand. In case you wondered, marketing and design is not required as past experience.

You'll play a key part in the annual governance programme, and lead or be involved in strategic projects as they evolve.

About you

To be successful in this role, you'll likely have:

  • experience from within central or local government, or a sector organisation
  • experience working in or with campaign groups and/or think tanks
  • a background in the development of strategic or operational policy
  • experience providing thought leadership
  • political nous with a strong understanding of political landscapes
  • strong strategic and critical thinking abilities combined with a strong risk radar
  • excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build deep trusting relationships
  • strong attention to detail
  • excellent communication and presentation capabilities
  • sound leadership skills.

In addition, you'll bring a good level of energy and a strong appetite for this work. You'll be a collaborative person, who works and contributes to the wider organisational goals, and is able to build credibility and trust, backed up by excellent preparatory work.
