Workbook, arrival tea or coffee, and morning tea.

These two half-day workshops will immerse you in Māori language pronunciation and tikanga. You will learn some basic conversation, vocabulary, and introductory grammar. Greetings and farewells, mihimihi and poroporokai are also a core component of this course. You will also learn how to construct your pēpēha. Finally, the course covers effective strategies for engagement with Māori business and Māturanga Māori.

Key audience:

This course is suitable for anyone in an organisation who would like to upskill in Māori language pronunciation and tikanga. It would be especially useful for businesses that engage with Māori stakeholders who would like to build more seamless and respectful relationships.

Learning outcomes:

  • Pronunciation
  • Pēpēhā (identity)
  • Both formal and informal greetings and farewells
  • Feelings
  • Counting
  • Tikanga and kawa

The course provided a clear overall sense of Te Reo Māori. I learnt far more than I was expecting. Whetu conveys the information efficiently with a sense of fun...I am going forward from this with more respect and stronger affinity to Te Ao Māori and an inspiration to learn more!
